![]() ![]() I disassembled the last (broken) assembly that came out of mine and could not determine what the issue was. I asked for images or clarification from that poster but never received an answer. He claimed that a build up of minerals from hard water stops the mechanism from pivoting the frozen balls out of the molds. I recently saw a post here on Reddit from another owner who said that he figured out what the issue was. And the horrid overall experience with this appliance, and with the poor quality of LG support, has led me to swear off buying another LG appliance in the future. It's a pity too as this was one of the key features that motivated me to buy the LG fridge. They seem well aware that this part keeps failing but have made no effort to correct it. ![]() As of the last time I spoke with LG (so-called) customer support about this - in November 2021 - LG has no change or update to this part. Took ten minutes and most of that time was just clearing the freezer of food. Just one modular, click in electrical connection and two screws. But most recently I just bought the part myself and installed it. The first time for me it was replaced under warranty. They all seem to last around 6-9 months or so before they fail. I have an LG fridge (with craft ice maker) purchased in September 2019. Yes, there are LOTS of people online who have posted about troubles with the craft ice makers. I will update again if/when there is any new information or updates! I contacted LG and they said that the warranty is only for 1 year, despite what someone claiming to be a 3rd party customer service rep said in the comments regarding them extending the warranty since they are having ongoing issues with craft ice. I was hoping that maybe they had made adjustments and new units would be more robust, but apparently not. Any help appreciated!ĮDIT#1: I had the ice maker replaced in May, which my credit card warranty paid for, but now it is doing the exact same thing. Does anyone have any experience with this? I have an extended warranty through my credit card but wanted to be able to talk with the repair folks prior so I don’t pay for a house call for them just to tell me it needs to be replaced and to schedule another appointment. I haven’t read of any fix, in fact it hard to find any info about it, besides replacing the craft ice unit. But, if no one is home it will just close back up thinking they did and attempt to fill the mold with water and spill into the tray, which essentially ruins all the ice that was made previously. I think it’s the ice getting stuck to something, maybe the silicone mold? If I hear it, I can run over there and help push it open so the balls, ahem, drop. The mechanism will attempt to turn and release the balls but something gets stuck and it clicks really loudly. Our over one year old LG refrigerator (read as out of warranty) is having trouble producing craft ice.
